Fruit of the Womb ~ Weeks 33-36 (Month 8) ~ Honeydew

Baby’s senses are continuing to improve -- when light peeks in through your (extremely) stretched belly, those tiny eyelids and irises blink and dilate. And, baby can now recognize and react to simple songs… time to start practicing your lullabies! Growth (at least inside your womb) is starting to slow, and you may notice baby descend into your pelvis at the end of this month. (thebump.com)

What Not To Say to Pregnant Woman

Date: Saturday, October 17, 2009

Time: approximately 2:15 pm

Location: Walgreen's checkout

Witness: Keri

What happened: I stop at Walgreen's on my home to pick up a compass for Hubby for his project. I have my girls from WA with me who are in town for a visit and mini baby shower. As I am checking out, the cashier, an older women, asks when I am due. I tell her December 8th. She then says, "Are there twins in there?"

It is all Keri can do to keep from busting out laughing in the store as I tell the cashier (as politely as I could), "No, just one."

We walk out side and I ask Keri if I am really that big and she says that yes, I am. Gotta love a friend who will tell you the truth!

One Year

So much can happen in a year. Just one year.

One year ago we drove a moving truck with most of belongings from Seattle to Boise. One year ago I woke up at my parent’s house and discovered that I was losing our baby. One year ago I had to tell Hubby something was wrong without completely losing it. One year ago I didn’t want to go through another year.

So much can happen in a year. Just one year.

Backstory: A little over a year ago, Hubby and I decided to move to leave Seattle for Boise. We wanted to be closer to some family and live somewhere that was a little more affordable and family friendly. We loved Seattle, our little house and all of our fabulous friends but it was time for a change. So we agreed that when one of us found a job in Boise we would put the house on the market and move. Well, I found a job first and things were put into action. We got the house ready and listed in late September 2008. As many of you may realize, this was when the world when to hell in a hand basket and the housing market collapsed. We have great timing. We got the house packed up and loaded 24 foot truck with our things and drove to Boise. I was coming out with the Peanut about a week prior to starting my job and Hubby was going to help move us and then head back to Seattle for a few more weeks to work, work on the house and wrap up loose ends. Then he would join us in Boise. We had made arrangements to stay with my mom and dad until we sold the house, to save some money.

The drive over was long but pretty uneventful. I drove Jenny car with Peanut and Hubby drove the moving truck. We arrived in Kuna late on Saturday, October 11, 2008 – Hubby’s birthday. We parked the truck at mom and dad’s and crashed. I woke up early the next morning and just didn’t feel right. I came back in and woke Hubby to tell him that something was wrong with our baby. We talked and decided to wait a little while and then call the OB in Seattle. In the meantime we took the truck over to the storage unit I had rented and began unloading it. I still wasn’t feeling right so I called. Because it was Sunday, I had to leave a message and wait for the on-call doc to call me back. This can take up to 2 hours on a weekend, which it did. There was not a lot she could tell me except to rest, keep my feet up and see how it goes. So that is what I did. That and stress and panic and replay the last few days over and over in my head wondering what I did that may have caused this. Later that evening, there was no change and I was starting to have cramps so I called my Seattle OB back. She said if I could handle it, to wait and go to a local OB the next day, if not to go to the ER. Around 10 pm I was a basket case and we ended up going to the ER. (Sidenote – the ER at St. Luke’s in Meridian is awesome. The staff were unbelievably sweet and what a great facility. For such a crappy reason to be there, by far, a way better experience than any of my visits to the Swedish or Harborview ER’s in Seattle.) After several blood tests and an ultrasound it was confirmed that there was no heartbeat and I was in fact having a miscarriage at 9 weeks. The very nice physician referred me to a local OB for a follow up the next day.

So we went home around 1 am and tried to wrap our head and hearts around the loss of our 2nd pregnancy. Now Hubby and I handle these things totally different. I am a crier. A big, ugly, wet, snot-nosed crier with the heaving and the sobbing and all that. It’s not pretty and that is how I pretty much spent the rest of the night. Hubby was amazing in his support and strength. If it weren’t for him, I really don’t know how I would have handled it. I have said it before and I will say it again and again, if it weren’t for him I would be medicated or committed. His strength and patience support our family. The next day we went to the OB appointment. Hubby was scheduled to fly back to Seattle, but changed his ticket due to everything going on. She was nice enough and after poking and prodding and yet another ultrasound to confirm that there was no heartbeat recommended a D&C. I agreed to it just because I wanted the whole thing to be over with, and scheduled it for the next day, October 14, 2008. That day I went from pregnant to not pregnant in a matter of moments.

I didn’t talk much about it. I didn’t tell very many people about it. It was something that we kept to ourselves and struggled with and dealt with and moved past. Yes ~ it is still really hard to think about, to talk about - but I survived and I am ready to move on and live my life today, not a year ago.

So much can happen in a year. Just one year.

In the past year, we finally sold the Seattle house, moved out of my parent’s house and of course are expecting again. It was a long year and it truly tested the Hubby and I, both individually and our relationship. But we made it and better people, better partners and better parents for it. We are also much more appreciative of owning our own home.

So, here we are, settling into our new house and counting down to the arrival of our Little Man. I am grateful everyday for the man I call Hubby, for the Peanut, for the Little Man, for both our amazing families, for the good jobs that both Hubby and I have, for our house, and for the life I have. I am more grateful for those things now than I was a year ago.

So much can happen in a year. Just one year.

Kids Couture

When I was pregnant with the Peanut, I heard it all the time ~ “little girls’ clothes are SO much cuter than little boys’ clothes”. I wouldn’t say that they are cuter, but I will say that there are lots more to choose from in the girls’ selection. I have noticed that when out shopping for Little Man. (I have a problem with shopping for The Peanut and now Little Man – I shop all the time. Both of them, especially the Peanut have a ton of clothes, but I can’t help myself.)

Anyway, after seeing the new infant and toddler boys’ line from the Gap, I don’t think that comment carries any weight anymore. This line is SO FREAKING ADORABLE and I want all of it!! It is called Deauville and I am trying to hold back. Check out the infant collection. Here are a few of my favorites, but I love it ALL!

And the toddler collection is super cute, too! I have been known to shop ahead …

Catching Up ~ Part 1

So, I've been a bad poster because we've actually had a lot going on to write about and I just haven't gotten around to it. Tonight’s topic: the house.

We have been in the house about a month now and love it. L.O.V.E. Love it! We haven’t had much time to really settle in or do much to the house, but Hubby did manage to squeeze in a few pictures as we are slowly unpacking. As we get things put away and get the house looking like us, I will try and add more pictures. We haven’t had time to do much to make the house our style with paint and other details because a) we both work full time b) we have a 2.5 year old to take care of after work c) I am 7 months pregnant d) it is a big house and there is a lot of wall space to paint e) the current colors are not our style, but not so terrible that they can’t wait t o be painted.

There are a few things we did tackle right away and as soon as I find the pictures I will get them posted. The first was the laundry room. Now you may be asking why the laundry room first? Well, because it was brown and blue and really dingy and we had our washer and dryer coming and I thought it would be best to have it painted before they were delivered so we didn’t have to try and move them later. Dear Hubby and my father-in-law got it all primed and my mom painted it! I love them for all their hard work and it looks so great. It is bright and cheery and clean like a laundry room should be. All that is left to in there is sand and paint the cabinets. They are okay oak cabinets, just a little worn – but they will look so good once we get them painted white. And as for the washer and dryer – I am in love. They are amazing. And pretty. I just like to stand in there and watch them run. Yes, I am a dork, but I am dork who likes to laundry, so I wanted a set that was easy to use, going to last a long time and looked nice. We decided that since we had to buy a washer and dryer, we would get really good ones. After much research on Hubby’s part (he is an engineer by schooling) we settled on the Maytag 3000 series commercial front load. They met all of my requirements (easy, durable, and pretty) and all of Hubby’s requirements (rated well by Consumer Report, energy efficient and affordable) and are nicer than we could have imagined.

The next project we took on was getting Peanuts “Big Girl” room done before Little Man arrives. This project is still in the works and slow going. I have asked a lot of dear Hubby on this project and he is working very hard to get it just right. And just right is not easy when it comes to me J I have a picture in my head of what I want her room to look like, but I am terrible at explaining it. Hubby has been wonderfully patient with me in trying to get all the details so it comes together just like I see it. I am not going to give away any more details because I want to do a big reveal with the before and after, so stay tuned.

And speaking of Little Man, we realized that we are coming up on his eviction date pretty quick (8 weeks and 3 days but who’s counting?) and we had yet really do anything for his room. All of the Peanut’s furniture will go with her into her new room, so there nothing for him but the bedding/linens. We actually had done some looking a month or so ago, but hadn’t made any decisions, so we sat down and looked and settled on a set pretty quickly. We go it ordered and hopefully it will be here before he is!

So that is pretty much where we are with the house. We still have a million boxes to unpack and are working on them as we can. But it is not like we need the stuff since it has all been in storage for close to a year. We have actually filled 2 big boxes with stuff for yard sale that we realized we didn’t need. I am hoping to de-clutter a lot more as we continue unpack. We also have more projects we would like to do, but they are on the to as we have time/money list. More to come…

P.S. A big thanks to my folks for the awesome vacuum and to Hubby’s folks for the great diner chairs! And thanks for all of the help moving, cleaning, painting and getting settled in the house ~ we couldn’t have done it without you ~ you’re the best!
